My Journey of Resilience
My Story
Why am I sharing my story? I frequently encounter individuals who believe their life challenges are unique.
The truth is everyone has a story to tell. When you take the time to listen or read about others' experiences, you often discover countless individuals who have faced even more daunting challenges than you but managed to triumph over adversity.
I wear several hats – a real estate entrepreneur, an author, speaker, and a life coach.
My journey of resilience commenced at the tender age of 11 when my father passed away, plunging my family into poverty. The help we received from family and friends often took the form of hand-me-down clothes that we had to mend and alter to fit. I recall a time when I had to tie string to hold my shoes together at the soles because we couldn't afford glue for repairs. Occasionally, we were fortunate enough to receive food items like canned beans or fish. My youngest sibling was only 3 years old at the time.
My mother made the courageous transition from a homemaker to a working mother and never allowed her challenges to affect her children; we were always her top priority. At the age of 12, I started working odd jobs and, during school holidays and after school, worked at a clothing retail store to assist my mother with household finances until I completed my schooling.
After several years, I successfully finished my secondary education and pursued accounting through a distance learning college while working. Many years later, I studied towards a B. Com degree in Marketing Management and, subsequently, a Life Coach Certification, along with industry qualifications in real estate.
My first substantial job was at a business forms company, where I worked in sales, supplying customized invoices and statements for customers' dot matrix printers. With my ambitious nature and a sense that the business forms and printing industry was evolving with the advent of laser printers, I decided to embark on a new career path.
In my mid-20s, I entered the real estate industry and achieved numerous accolades and sales awards, earning Gold Award and Premier Status designation. Over the years, I took aspiring interns under my wing, mentoring and motivating them, many of whom went on to shine in the real estate sector.
My passion for leadership, guidance, and mentoring opened doors for me in management within the real estate industry, a role I currently wholeheartedly enjoy. I am often invited to speak at private and public events, often offering my services to schools free of charge.
The establishment of "Mindscope Coaching SA" naturally evolved alongside my real estate commitments, with the goal of expanding the firm into a major player in coaching and inspiration through eBooks, videos, and podcasts. My dream for the Mindscope Coaching platform, currently in its infancy, is to reach and assist millions of people.
I offer readers this advice: Never adopt a victim mindset. Falling into this mindset creates a vacuum where you expect others to continuously bail you out, leading to a sense of entitlement that distracts you from ambition and the drive to succeed.
Feel free to share your story in the comments. I would love to read your stories of resilience and rising up up against the odds.
